StartupLab Accelerator #9
Today we are opening up for applications to the ninth edition of our accelerator program. As always, we look to partner with ambitious Norway-based tech entrepreneurs, and the selected companies receive an investment of 1–3MNOK as they enter into the 12-week program starting this fall.
The beginning of this decade hasn’t been a straightforward improvement from last year, to say the least. Covid-19, a drastic drop in the oil price and now massive protests against systemic racism all over, are amongst the events we’ve experienced so far in 2020. But to paraphrase an old saying, every challenge comes with opportunities, and we continue to be optimistic about the future and what’s next.
Now is the best time to start your next company.
Looking back, many of the most prominent tech companies were born in — and of — difficult times. You don’t have to look back further than the last recession in 2008 to find evidence of this, with companies like Slack, Whatsapp, Instagram, and Uber all being founded in the years after.
At StartupLab we strongly believe that many of the future iconic companies from Norway will be founded in the coming years. There’s a saying that “there are decades when nothing happens, and there are weeks when decades happen”, and we’re going through the latter now. The number of people working remotely has 15-x’ed. E-commerce has skyrocketed. And we have to stop burning fossil fuels immediately, which both means we have to develop new energy sources, and we’ll have tons of talent ready to go after these new challenges.
These changes open opportunities for ambitious entrepreneurs willing to build the future. And our accelerator program is designed to bring much-needed support for the earliest stage.
The 12 week program is tailor-made per company, and the number of “one-size-fits-none” sessions are kept at a minimum. Founders are free to work with what they see most important for their company at any given time, our job at StartupLab is to enable this work through advice, resources, and introductions in addition to the investment all companies receive at the start. The StartupLab community of serial entrepreneurs, corporate partners, seasoned investors, and alumni founders are of course available alongside our team, offering the best possible advice along the way. We have been supporting tech entrepreneurs since 2012, and many have successfully scaled their companies since then. No Isolation, Huddly, Remarkable, Otovo, Ardoq, Kahoot, Zwipe, Tise, Attensi, Confrere, OncoImmunity, Exabel — and many others are well underway. As these companies grow out of StartupLab we are looking to bring in new founders.
